Netanjahus Vater arbeitete das rassistische Element in der Judenfeindschaft der Inquisition in Spanien heraus.<br \/>\nUnd von seinem Bruder, der als Teil eines Sondereinsatzkommandos bei der Befreiung der Geiseln von <a href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Operation_Entebbe\">Entebbe<\/a> umgekommen ist. In Entebbe wurden die Geiseln, unter der F\u00fchrung des deutschen Linksterroristen Wilfried B\u00f6se, in Juden und Nichtjuden selektiert &#8211; ein traumatisches Erlebnis f\u00fcr die israelische \u00d6ffentlichkeit.<br \/>\nBenjamin Netanjahu sieht die Bedrohung durch die iranische Atomaufr\u00fcstung in einer langen Tradition des Antisemitismus, dessen Akteure changieren, w\u00e4hrend die grunds\u00e4tzliche Bedrohung bleibt:<\/p>\n<p><em>Nevertheless, the prime minister\u2019s preoccupation with the Iranian nuclear program seems sincere and deeply felt. I recently asked one of his advisers to gauge for me the depth of Mr. Netanyahu\u2019s anxiety about Iran. His answer: \u201cThink Amalek.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmalek,\u201d in essence, is Hebrew for \u201cexistential threat.\u201d Tradition holds that the Amalekites are the undying enemy of the Jews. They appear in Deuteronomy, attacking the rear columns of the Israelites on their escape from Egypt. The rabbis teach that successive generations of Jews have been forced to confront the Amalekites: Nebuchadnezzar, the Crusaders, Torquemada, Hitler and Stalin are all manifestations of Amalek\u2019s malevolent spirit.<\/p>\n<p>If Iran\u2019s nuclear program is, metaphorically, Amalek\u2019s arsenal, then an Israeli prime minister is bound by Jewish history to seek its destruction, regardless of what his allies think. In our recent conversation, Mr. Netanyahu avoided metaphysics and biblical exegesis, but said that Iran\u2019s desire for nuclear weapons represented a \u201chinge of history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIran has threatened to annihilate a state,\u201d he said. \u201cIn historical terms, this is an astounding thing. It\u2019s a monumental outrage that goes effectively unchallenged in the court of public opinion. Sure, there are perfunctory condemnations, but there\u2019s no j\u2019accuse \u2014 there\u2019s no shock.\u201d He argued that one lesson of history is that \u201cbad things tend to get worse if they\u2019re not challenged early.\u201d He went on, \u201cIranian leaders talk about Israel\u2019s destruction or disappearance while simultaneously creating weapons to ensure its disappearance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Netanjahu glaube nicht, meint Goldberg, dass die Iraner unmittelbar Israel mit Atomwaffen angreifen werden. (Wegen der israelischen Abschreckung durch eigene Atomwaffen?)
