Nur scheint die Aktion völlig nach hinten los zu gehen, weil sich niemand für die Kritik an Sarkozy interessiert und viele Passanten (wie ich auch!) es ihm wahrscheinlich sofort zutrauen, so für sich zu werben.

Und was wollen die kritischen Künstler eigentlich sagen? Dass er nicht so ist wie Obama? Boaah!

Nach einem Bericht der Dail Mail hat der einzige Überlebende Attentäter von Mumbai zugegeben, der Lashkar-e-Taiba anzugehören, einer Terrorgruppe aus dem pakistanisch kontrollierten Teil Kaschmirs. 

Azam Amir Kasab, 21 Jahre

Die Gruppe sei von den Hintermännern aufgefordert worden, „Weiße anzugreifen, bevorzugt Amerikaner und Briten“. Der ursprüngliche Plan sei gewesen, 5000 Menschen zu töten.

Einige der Täter, unter ihnen auch Azam Amir Kasab, der Überlebende, seien vor einem Monat in Mumbai gewesen, wo sie sich als Studenten ausgegeben hätten, um das Gelände für ihre Aktion auszuchecken und die Angriffsziele zu filmen.

Teil des Plans sei es auch gewesen, in der Prominenten-Gegend Malabar Hill VIP’s als Geiseln zu nehmen. 

Kasab habe zugegeben, dass sein Kommando in Pakistan (Kaschmirregion) trainiert worden sei. Das Training habe über 5 Monate gedauert.

Die Terroristen haben über Blackberrys miteinander kommuniziert.

Schon am 21. November sollen sie aus der Nähe von Karatschi in Pakistan aufgebrochen sein.

Unterwegs wurden sie von einem größeren Schiff mit einem Arsenal von Waffen versorgt, darunter Kalaschnikoffs und acht Handgranaten für jeden Angreifer. 

Sie entführten eine Fisch-Kutter und töteten die fünfköpfige Besatzung. Einer der Männer würde enthauptet aufgefunden.

Am 23. November wurden sie von der Küstenwache aufgegriffen, aber es gelang ihnen offenber, die beiden Beamten zu überwältigen und einen sofort zu töten,  den anderen zunächst zur Mithilfe zu erpressen und dann zu erschiessen, kurz bevor sie Mumbai erreichten.

Und der Chefredakteur von Newsweek International, selbst das Kind einer muslimisch-indischen Familie, hat darum auch wieder einmal den besten Kommentar geschrieben.

Indiens Muslime sind eine entfremdete, sich radikalisierende Minderheit. Doch es gibt keine nationale Lösung für das Problem des Dschihadismus:

I knew people who worked in the World Trade Center and some who died there. This time, the tragedy is also personal. My mother’s office is in the Taj hotel (she is the editor of the Taj Magazine). Luckily she was out of town on the day of the attack. My brother-in-law and niece, however, were in their apartment, which overlooks the Oberoi, the other hotel that was attacked. A dozen commandos took over their apartment, positioned snipers at the windows, and began giving and receiving fire. (My niece is keeping the bullets as souvenirs.)

India also has a political problem with its Muslims. It remains unclear whether any Indian Muslims were involved with these attacks, but it is quite possible that the terrorists had some small pockets of support in the country. President Bush likes to point out that India has 140 million Muslims and, because it is a democracy, not one is a member of Al Qaeda. Even if this is still true, it is simplistic. The cancerous rise of fundamentalism and radicalism that has swept up Muslims everywhere has not spared India. In addition, Muslims there are disaffected and vulnerable to manipulation. They are underrepresented at every economic, political and social level—with a few high-profile exceptions. A perverse consequence of the partition of the Indian subcontinent is that Muslims are everywhere a minority—which closes off the chance at political power. (The parts of British India that had Muslim majorities became Pakistan and Bangladesh.) They have not shared in the progress of the last two decades and face a Hindu nationalist movement, parts of which are ugly and violent. None of this is to excuse in any sense the cruel choice anyone might make to join a jihad. (…)

Black Friday ist der Tag nach dem großen amerikanischen Familienfest Thanksgiving. Traditionell wird dieser Tag, an dem die meisten Menschen hier frei haben, als Beginn der Weihnachtseinkaufsaison betrachtet. Die großen Ketten locken die Kunden mit starken Rabatten. Mancherorts stehen die Leute schon vor 5 Uhr morgens an, um sich die wenigen Sonderangebote nicht entgehen zu lassen.

In einem Vorort New Yorks ist ein 34 jähriger Angestellter heute morgen von einer hysterisierten Masse von Schnäppchensuchern zu Tode getrampelt worden. Jdimypai Damour, aus Jamaica, Queens, war ein Zeitarbeiter in dem dortigen Wal-Mart. Um kurz vor 5 stand er mit anderen Angestellten im Eingangsbereich des Ladens, als die ca. 2000 wartenden Verbraucher gewaltsam die Türen eindrückten. Er wurde niedergerempelt, und Hunderte stürmten über ihn hinweg zu den Sonderangeboten. Die Polizei wurde sogar noch behindert, als sie lebensrettende Massnahmen einleitete. Um kurz nach 6 wurde Damour in einem lokalen Krankenhaus für tot erklärt.

Welch eine Barbarei. Und das in einem Land, das sich in der größten Kreditkrise seiner jüngeren Geschichte befindet, ausgelöst durch einen sinnlosen Konsumrausch auf Pump.

„People did not stop to help the employee as he lay on the ground, and they pushed against other Wal-Mart workers who were trying to aid Mr. Damour. The crowd kept running into the store even after the police arrived, jostling and pushing officers who were trying to perform CPR, the police said.

“They were like a stampede,” said Nassau Det. Lt. Michael Fleming. “Hundreds of people walked past him, over him or around him.”

Es gibt für manche Leute keine Bremse mehr bei der Jagd nach dem besten Deal. Am Tag nach einem Fest, das an die beste amerikanische Tradition erinnert, an Gemeinschaftsgeist, Familienwerte, an das Teilen und das Danksagen (zueinander und zu Gott), geben sich Massen von Menschen einer gewissenlosen Gier hin.

Sind die gleichen Leute, die mit ihren ausgereizten Kreditkarten, auf Pump gekauften SUV’s und haltlos finanzierten Häusern sich selbst und die Welt in den Ruin gerissen haben,  am morgen nach Thanksgiving schon wieder im Kaufrausch?

Ein unterbezahlter Teilzeitarbeiter kommt ums Leben. Und trotzdem schleppt man weiter günstige Flachbildschirme nach Hause. Unbegreiflich.

Drei weitere Kunden wurden auch verletzt. Und eine 28jährige, die im achten Monat schwanger ist, mußte unter ärztliche Beobachtung.

Im übrigen liebe ich Amerika. Aber einfach ist das derzeit oft nicht.

One of the terrorists phoned a news station demanding jihadis be released from jail in exchange for prisoners. „We want all Mujahideens held in India released and only after that we will release the people,“ a man named Sahadullah told a media outlet. „Release all the Mujahideens, and Muslims living in India should not be troubled.“

Another terrorist named Imran phoned a TV station and spoke in Urdu in what is believed to be a Kashmiri accent. „Ask the government to talk to us and we will release the hostages,“ he said. „Are you aware how many people have been killed in Kashmir? Are you aware how your army has killed Muslims. Are you aware how many of them have been killed in Kashmir this week?“

The Indian Mujahideen has taken credit for several recent mass-casualty attacks in India. The group claimed credit for the July 25 and 26 bombings in Ahmedabad and Bangalore. At least 36 Indians were killed and more than 120 were wounded in the attacks. The Indian Mujahideen took credit for the Sept. 13 attacks in New Delhi that resulted in 18 killed and more than 90 wounded. The group also claimed credit for the bombings in Jaipur last May (60 killed, more than 200 wounded), and bombings in Uttar Pradesh in November 2007 (14 killed, 50 wounded).

In several of those attacks, an Indian Mujahideen operative who calls himself „Arbi Hindi“ e-mailed the media to claim responsibility. Arbi Hindi’s real name is Abdul Subhan Qureshi, an Indian national who is believed to be behind many of the recent terror attacks inside India. Qureshi, a computer expert, is beleived to have trained hundreds of recruits to conduct terror attacks in India. He is often called India’s Osama bin Laden.

Indian intelligence believes the Indian Mujahideen is a front group created by the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Harkat ul Jihad al Islami.

The International News aus Islamabad legt den Finger in die Wunde der indischen Geheimdienste: Wie konnte das passieren?

ISLAMABAD: The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) of the cabinet secretariat has failed; failed miserably. So have the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), the Joint Intelligence Committee, the Directorate of Air Intelligence, the Directorate of Navy Intelligence, the Joint Cipher Bureau, the Directorate of Signals Intelligence and the Defence Image Processing and Analysis Centre. All of India’s intelligence agencies have failed, and the most critical element in their collective failure is their overwhelming focus on Pakistan-based militant groups. So intense has been this focus that India’s home-grown militant entities have spread like wildfire all through India’s 2,973,190 sq km of land mass. According to South Asia Terrorism Portal, “at least 231 of the India’s 608 districts are currently afflicted, at differing intensities, by various insurgent and terrorist movements.”

Allerdings ist es schwer denkbar, dass eine lokale Gruppe ohne auswärtige Hilfe eine solche Aktion ausführen könnte.

Interessantes Detail auf dem Counterterrorism Blog: Evan Kohlmann hat mit einem Sprecher der JUD gesprochen, dem politischen Arm der Lashkar-e-toiba, die zuerst verdächtigt wurden, hinter den Anschlägen von Mumbai zu stecken:

Earlier this evening, I spoke via telephone with the official representative of JUD, Abdullah Muntazir, to discuss the situation in Mumbai and mounting allegations of involvement by LET and/or Pakistani Islamists. Muntazir strongly denied these charges, referring to the attacks as an „internal problem“ for India. He repeatedly insisted to me, „we have nothing to do with it“, and blamed Indian „propaganda“ for „divert[ing] the attention of the public media“ — which he described as „their usual practice.“ Interestingly, during our conversation, Muntazir went even further and actually condemned the events that have taken place in Mumbai as needless „carnage“: „Islam does not permit killing civilian people.“ He added, „I don’t think that this is a legitimate tactic.“

Nun ja. Es ist halt immer die Frage, wie man „Zivilisten“ definiert. Für manche Dschihadisten sind Amerikaner, Briten und Israelis (Juden) niemals Zivilisten, weil sich ihre Länder (ihre Religion) im „Krieg gegen den Islam“ befinde. Das macht dann jeden zu einem legitimen Ziel. Immerhin macht Muntazir die Unterscheidung. Die Taktik der Massenmörder von Mumbai zeigt ganz deutlich, dass sie zu denjenigen gehören, die der ersteren Definition anhängen.

Eine erste Einschätzung des Counterterrorism Blog, während die Ereignisse noch weitergehen:

In view of the historical context, precedents and latest analysis, the most likely groups that may be behind these attacks are the Lashkar e Toiba/SIMI (they now call themselves Indian Mujahideen). These groups are Jihadists, have links to the other organizations in Kashmir but also inside Pakistan with pro-Taliban elements and eventually Al Qaeda.

The ideological identification is most likely Jihadist although the group almost surely will issue more than one release to claim the attack and put it in context.

According to Indian sources this is an operation of a very new type in India. The „emirs“ have sent these armed elements in their 20s to strike at Indian psyche.

One goal is to sink the Pakistani-Indian rapprochement. In Islamabad, the new Government is engaged in operations against the big Jihadi boys on the north western frontier.

It is quite possible that the Mumbai attacks aim at triggering tensions between the two old foes so that pressure would be released against the radicals in Pakistan. In any event, this is a large Jihadi operation against one of the emerging economies and the largest democracy in Asia.

The goal is to target India as a power engaged in the War on Terror but also to further destabilize the region, including Pakistan and its neighbor Afghanistan.

Lustig: Nachdem Al-Zawahiris Attacka auf Obama als „Haus-Sklaven“ international verurteilt wurde, beschweren sich Al-Kaida-Unterstützer auf den Dschihadi-Foren über die „unfaire Berichterstattung“, die zu sehr pro-Obama sei. Auf den Websites des Netzwerks ist offenbar eine Debatte im Gange über diesen Propaganda-Fehlschlag der Al-Kaida Nummer 2.

Und ausserdem hat dessen Inanspruchnahme von Malcolm X als „wahrem Muslim“  die amerikanischen Muslime aufgeweckt, die sich dagegen verwahren, ihre Ikone so missbraucht zu sehen. Woraufhin nun Al-Kaida zurückpolemisiert, nicht alle amerikanischen Muslime seien Verräter, man denke nur an Adam Gadahn (den verrückten Konvertiten, der hier schon öfter Thema war). 

Es wird eng für Al-Kaida an der Propagandafront.

Global reactions to Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri’s controversial condemnation of U.S. President-Elect Barack Obama as a „House Slave“ (or, alternatively, „House Negro“) have begun to pour in — including via the top jihad web forums used by Al-Qaida to disseminate its propaganda. Though hardcore Al-Qaida supporters have predictably dismissed any criticism of Dr. al-Zawahiri and are fiercely backing his choice of words, there is a rather ironic (if not entirely unfamiliar) twist to this issue. After observing international press reporting on the incident, these same supporters are now bitterly attacking the media for its „unfair“ pro-Obama bias and for deliberately „confusing“ the meaning of al-Zawahiri’s message.

In related news, Zawahiri’s audio statement also appears to have created a palpable, tense confrontation between Al-Qaida and a significant cross-section of African-American Muslims. Several U.S.-based Muslim organizations immediately held press conferences or issued statements to strongly criticize al-Zawahiri and his manipulation of the words of the late Malcolm X. Conversely, these conferences and statements of response have not gone over well within the jihadi community, with some Arabic-speaking commentators issuing angry rants about the apparent treachery of American Muslims, including specifically the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). One Al-Qaida supporter cautioned his quarrelsome online colleagues, „Brothers, this does not apply to all American Muslims. Do not forget our brother [Adam] Yehiye Gadahn, a naturalized Muslim and U.S. citizen.“
